“Energy’s Punch The Clock is one of the most promising melodic hardcore debuts in recent memory. Energy has crafted a sound that is part Black Sails era AFI mixed with influences from melodic masters such as Ignite and Vision. Despite revisiting a sound that has been established for well over a decade, Energy delivers passionate songs that champion an era of songwriting that is frequently reminisced.

Vocalist Tank sounds like he is channeling Davey Havoc in his delivery, and while most hardcore singers would fail miserably at such a task, Tank has a powerful voice and pulls it off well. Unlike other subgenres of punk, melodic hardcore often sounds best with a vocalist that possesses traditional singing talent, and Tank’s vocals are a significant part of what makes this debut so memorable.

Normally I’d highlight standout tracks, but all of these songs are equally solid. Starting with an intro that bleeds flawlessly into the opening track, the band soars through all 8 songs in just over 10 minutes. The guitarists have written incredibly catchy hooks and Tank’s vocals put the songs over the top. The short length of this debut is an asset; with the increasing professionalization of hardcore, it seems many bands are pressured to churn out lengthier albums in accordance with major label norms. Certain styles of punk and hardcore have more of an impact when kept short and Energy falls within this camp. Don’t let the length be an excuse to cheap out and download this, as the artwork is awesome and looks great on the glossy liner notes.”

Track Name: Intro
Can you feel this energy?
Track Name: Keep The Change
I close my eyes and turn away
I can't foresee a better day
A time and place where we could stay
I pray tonight for yesterday

I can't believe, I can't foresee
And I can't turn back the hands of time

I see this road start to descend
A nightmare waits around the bend
And as this dream comes to an end
I'm left with nothing once again
Track Name: Lost And Found
How could things go wrong so fast
How can the way it's always been turn out not to last
How can you bury these feelings with the past

Losing you was finding me
Track Name: Streetlights
I'm ten years old again
Still finding room to breathe
Still spending nights under these streetlights
It's the only place I see

It's time we give up on regret

I can't keep living in my past
Please just let me forget
It's time we all let it go
It's time we give up on regret

I've closed my eyes to you
You're nothing but a ghost to me
You come and go
But only my eyes can see
Track Name: Talk Hard
A cold and distant retreat
Another tortured soul admits defeat

I can see it everywhere
And I know
That nobody even cares

I can't speak in this tongue
I don't sing how it's sung
It's time to raise the bar
And talk hard

Wounded and hidden far from sight
Embracing solitude won't help win the fight

Can you feel it?
These rising tides of social change
Track Name: Cyanide
Inside these walls
I'm losing hope
Don't care about your problems
I've got my own

Don't try to get inside
Because I won't let you in
One step inside my head
You wouldn't know where to begin

Day in
Day out
Punch in
Punch out

Inside these walls
I'm giving up
Track Name: Bushwhacked
I can't believe what's going on around me
I hear them calling out for this decline

Speak out for what you hold so dear
Let's regain our sense of true equality

I can't believe what's going on
You're falling further as you fall right in line

Don't succumb to this nightmare come true
Don't let this state of mind overcome you

Don't let this nightmare come true
